We Could Make it 'Round the World

Ralph and I were watching Up in the Air last night, and George Clooney mentioned that the circumference of the earth is around 24, 000 miles.

Ralph looked at me and said, "We drive over 30,000 miles a year just to commute."

And then I started to cry.

124 miles a day x 260 weekdays a year = 32,240.

That puts me at about 354,640 miles.

How far is the moon from the Earth?

Since the moon's orbit is elliptical (oval-shaped), its distance varies from about 221,463 miles (356,334 kilometers) at perigee (closest approach to Earth) to 251,968 miles (405,503 kilometers) at apogee (farthest point). The average distance from the moon to the Earth is 238,857 miles (384,392 kilometers).
