R.I.P. Rosie

Geraldine Hoff Doyle, the inspiration for Rosie the Riveter, died Sunday at the age of 86. Apparently she didn't even realize that the poster was modeled after her until the 1980s! When she was 17, she was operating a metal-stamping machine when a photographer took her picture like the one below. (Apparently she quit after only two weeks because she saw another woman severely injure her hand and worried that she'd do the same.)
