Red Hat Momma

This week's Sincerely Fro' Me to You post involves one of my partners in crime. She and I always have a blast when we get together, and she loves me no matter what. She is none other than my 92-year-old grandmother.

I love my grandma. She is quite a spitfire. I also love her because when I take pictures with her I get to be the tallest one in the picture, which almost never happens:

I visited my grandmother in Ohio a few years back and we went on a lunch cruise on the lake. While on the boat, we saw a group of women in lovely red hats and purple outfits. They were so colorful and happy and looked like they were having so much fun that we just had to talk to them. Such was my first encounter with the Red Hat Society.

My grandmother was so excited to learn about the Red Hatters that she made us run right out and immediately purchase hats and other accessories.

The rest of the family had fun taking pictures of us all over the farm.

We went to get ice cream later in the day and when we walked into the shop, everyone was staring at us. My grandmother proclaimed in a loud voice, "Don't worry, everybody, we're the Red Hot Mommas!" (I told you she's a kick.)

She still talks about that day we had as Red Hatters, and even though she never officially joined a chapter, we thought of her as an honorary Red Hat.

Last year, my grandmother moved into a senior facility and I flew out to see her this past October. Remembering her fondness for flair, I crocheted her a red purse with a fluffy purple accent. When I gave it to her, she told me that in her move, she had lost her lovely red hat, and she was quite sad about it. So she made do with what she had:

She's resourceful, that one.
