Boys

I was clicking around in blogland today and some pictures I came across made me remember some of the random thoughts that pass through my head quite often. Thoughts about the creatures that live in my house.

Being the sole female in our home for three years now, I've come to the conclusion that there are just going to be things about boys that I will never understand. It's better to just accept this fact and move on with my life.

Below is a list of some of the things that I've had to come to terms with, some recently and some since the day I walked in the door. Many are specific to just the uh, "men" in my house, but I think many of these run through every boy's brain.

1. "Bloody knuckles" is an awesome game to play.

2. Shirts make for perfect napkins and hands are the most practical utensils to use.

3. Taking a picture of your female dog humping your male dog and then making it your cell phone's wallpaper is the best idea ever.

4. Even though you have football practice every day in 90° heat, showering is still optional.

5. Using a cell phone to create a YouTube video of you dancing while in a (non-dancing) academic class is totally acceptable [but you don't understand why no one else thinks so].

6. Wrestling is a mandatory form of communication.

7. Girls are more important than teachers, school, parents, and common sense, but not more important than video games.

8. The "no pants sagging halfway down your butt" part of the school dress code should be eliminated.

9. Haircuts are for sissies.

[Okay, that's really only one of them, and he's finally growing out of that stage. Thank God.]

10. LOUDER is ALWAYS better.

And last, but certainly not least:

11. When in doubt, fart.

Any that I missed?

Happy Friday everyone.

A Picture Really is Worth a Thousand Words

This picture says so much about our family.

a) At least half of the men in our household are shirtless at any given time.

b) At least one of the men in our household is in serious need of a haircut at any given time.

c) Aaron is the only man in the household who genuinely smiles in pictures. Ever.

d) We skimp on cake around here. (Just kidding. That's a brownie. And no, we didn't have to all share just that one.)

e) We do skimp on birthday candles. Those are recycled from two previous birthdays.

f) At least one of the men in our household will skimp on chores at any given time. (Note the crumbs on the table that was supposedly wiped down after dinner.)

g) No matter what, we are always together as a family for our birthdays. Always.

Happy Birthday Aaron!!

Have a great weekend.

P.S. My mom gave me a memory stick full of old family photos that they had found while looking for embarrassing pics of my brother for his rehearsal dinner.

I found this one of me when I was 19, the same age as Aaron now. Tartan, the collie, looks like he's about to bite my head off, but I think he was actually just barking.

h) We take odd Christmas photos around here.

This Would Explain a Lot

To say it's been tough lately dealing with all the teens in the household is a major understatement. Well, for me, anyway. Ralph's able to roll with the punches a lot better than I can.

I found an article linked to MSN today called, "How to Survive Your Teens." One point I found particularly interesting was the following:

"[Teens'] brains almost regress for a while as they make sense of their new thought processes. Don't assume they know better - in some cases, they really can blame their brain."

That would explain a lot of the behavior I've seen exhibited recently in our home. The whining, the crying, the screaming, the swearing, the crazy attention-seeking antics. And that's just me. (Oh, I kid. Kind of.)

I don't think I'll share this bit of info with said teens, though. I don't want to give them another excuse to add to their arsenal.

Boy

I found this on a site that led me to this online store. I just thought it was too hysterical.

Last night, as I was listening to the boys tear apart the furniture in one of their nightly cage matches, this poem suddenly popped into my head:

Which made me realize two things:

1. I have and always will love Shel Silverstein.

2. The boys would only stop fighting long enough to roll their eyes at me if I recited this poem to them.

I feel sorry for the furniture.
